SLS, CUSAT @ SLCU NATIONAL MOOT COURT COMPETITION - A CHIT CHAT

Here we have with us, Ankitha Praveen (Sem V), Mahesh Menon (Sem III) & Aiswarya K. M.  (Sem III), the team that participated from School of Legal Studies, CUSAT in the SLCU National Moot Court Competition held @ SLCU, Bangalore, from 7th – 9th September 2012.  The speakers were Ankitha and Mahesh. Aiswarya was the researcher. The memorandum submitted by the team was ranked ‘3’ in the Moot comprising participants from 23 Law Schools in India. At the outset, I congratulate three of you for this achievement.

To begin, what do you say about the SLCU Moot?
ANKITHA:     It was really a great experience. Had a nice time with my team mates, opponent teams and judges. And about the SLCU Moot, the hospitality was extremely good and they gave us an excellent accommodation and transport.

Any comments on the moot problem?
AISWARYA:   The problem was not one sided. We were able to grab matter for both the sides. It was indeed a standard problem. We really worked a lot when compared to that of our internal moot.

Which law was the problem focused on?
MAHESH:       Mainly Consti and Tax..and a bit of Administrative law. But we really had to work over the issues.

How long did you work on the problem?
AISWARYA:   About one month or more we were completely in our library..

Ankii.. How do you evaluate yourself when compared to your performance @ the NLS International Arbitration moot?
ANKITHA:    This moot was quite different from the one I did @ NLS. In fact, this is my first national moot and indeed I think I have improved a lot this time in both, research as well as speaking.

Now its your turn Mahesh.. How do you feel after your first moot?
MAHESH:     As a beginner, I feel it was really good. I liked the moot and it was a nice experience

Aisuu.. How did your researching go?
AISWARYA:   As usual, law books, journals, articles and also the legal databases. I believe I’ve made adequate research on the problem.

Well, datz gud !!
Ankithaa.. What do you say about your co counsels?
ANKITHA:    My co counsels (Aisu and Maami :P) co-operated with full support and worked extremely well. I really enjoyed working with them.

Who were your opponents?
AISWARYA: K. L. E., Bangalore and Punjab Law University

What do you guys say about their performance?
MAHESH:    They did perform well and we had a healthy competition with them.

What about the judges? Did they grill you?
MAHESH:     The judges we met with in both the rounds were in two extremes. The judges of the first round was OK. But the judges in the second round were very rude. It was too hard to put up with him.

So, let’s conclude. Anything more to add?
ANKITHA:    On behalf of me and my team mates, a big thanks to our parents, teachers, friends, seniors and God almighty for supporting us. A word to the upcoming mooters….Mooting really aids in developing our oratory skills, research skills and confidence. I say this right from my experience. Moreover, it really helps us in knowing a lot about the core subject on which we are doing the moot. That’s all.

THANK YOU GUYS !!
HOPE YOU’LL BOUNCE HIGHER NEXT TIME !!
GOOD LUCK !! J J J
